Left of the Dial Radio Playlist - 1/28/11
Last night’s show had a rocky start, but it recovered nicely by the half hour mark. The regular online stream wasn’t working correctly, so if you were listening online and the music that was playing didn’t seem like what I might usually play, that may be the explanation. I tried to forward everyone to the working link by ~6:30 though, so hopefully some people found that and got...

RE: FW: Song name? From:ccappello13@students.hopkins.edu Sent:Sat, Jan 29, 2011 at 2:28 pm To:xxxxxxx@xxx.com Hey Kevin, Thanks for e-mailing Kristen last night. My name is Chris, and I was the DJ broadcasting live last night from 6-8 PM on WNHU for my show Left of the Dial, which airs every Friday night at that time. The song in question was a live version of “Sixteen Blue” by...

Apparently those other links weren’t working, and were actually forwarding you to someone else’s show Anyway in case this has been a little too hectic for you, I have been recording the show, which you can listen to here tomorrow. Sorry! The link above should be working fine. I still have nearly an hour and a half left.

thisisemo: Cap’n Jazz 7.10.95 Brickhouse Lincoln, NE CHECK THIS GUY’S CHANNEL OUT! It’s a bunch of videos he took from the mid-90s with bands like cap’n jazz, christie front drive, angel hair, swing kids, etc. All recently uploaded! This might actually be the most incredible video I’ve ever seen. “Ooh Do I Love You” and “Oh Messy Life” are especially mind...

Jeff Mangum to Play ATP Festival, possibly more... →
Jeff Mangum’s representative issued a statement recently that the man himself would be playing the ATP sponsored I’ll Be Your Mirror festival this year, which takes place in Asbury Park, New Jersey, from September 30th to October 2nd. The ever-elusive Neutral Milk Hotel frontman has lately been coming out of his shell, so to speak; he played an incredibly hyped show at a benefit for...

Popcorn Noises: Conversations with Danny: 2000s... →
popcornnoises: DANNY: i have a theory: ME: go on DANNY: I may be becoming a “child of 2000’s music”. So, music that came out from 2000 to 2010. These 10 yrs, especially the earlier yrs were extremely formative on my musical tastes. I have noticed that a lot of the bands I tend to consistently go back to are… Fascinating. This part is especially poignant -  ME: the thing about the...

spiralstairs replied to your post:Which band/solo artist would you say produced the best b-sides? The Smiths? The Beatles? Some other band? Pavement has the best B-Sides IMO. Yeah, Pavement b-sides are killer too.

My Heart To Joy Live at Lilly's Pad UPDATE
Two weeks ago I posted about an awesome show at The Lilly’s Pad from Manic Productions… It turns out that Algernon Cadwallader (above) has inexplicably been dropped off the bill at the upcoming My Heart To Joy EP release show, which is still going to take place on March 4th in New Haven, CT. I’m really disappointed. A replacement will be announced tomorrow.

Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean (2011)
Look at that cover. When I first saw it about a month ago I wasn’t sure what to think; In the 2000s, singer/songwriter Sam Beam’s Iron & Wine project churned out three incredibly successful folk records, solidifying his position as one of the premier artists in that scene. Though it never really clicked with me, the music on those records resonated with a lot of people. His...

SHARON VAN ETTEN live at BAR in New Haven CT,...
Brooklyn based singer/songwriter and lewisandhisblog-favorite Sharon Van Etten stopped by BAR in New Haven last night as part of a series of free Wednesday night shows via Manic Productions.  She opened with ”A Crime”, the excellent first track from her 2010 album Epic. Around 10 o’clock, after what felt like a long wait following the superb opening band Plume Giant, Ms....
