Stream Into It. Over It.’s Daytrotter Session

Punk-leaning indie folk singer/songwriter Evan Weiss, a.k.a. Into It. Over It., recently checked in to the Daytrotter studios for his first Daytrotter Session. Despite exploring a much more upbeat and aggressive side on his adventurous new LP Proper, Weiss goes back to his roots with this session. He opens with “Nashville, TN”, a track from his 2010 7” split with Bob Nanna & Lauren Lo that was recently reissued as part of his Twelve Towns LP, out now on Topshelf Records. Subsequently, Weiss drags out a couple tracks from his hugely ambitious debut album 52 Weeks, including what may be the definitive Into It. Over It. song, “Anchor”. He also tries his hand at a couple covers that he’s been known for performing in the past: one of Iron Chic’s “Bustin’ (Makes Me Feel Good)” and his more well-known cover of “Raw Bar OBX 2002” by Everyone Everywhere. He performs the latter with female vocal accompaniment, which provides a respite from the solo singer/songwriter formula that he employs during the majority of the session.
On all of these songs, Weiss sings with all of the commanding honesty that made him an established player in the scene. The reason that Weiss tours with and opens for punk bands (he’s currently on tour with Frank Turner and Andrew Jackson Jihad, despite being a solo act with an acoustic guitar) is that he doesn’t need aggressive instrumentation and vocals to convey the sentiments of punk. It’s all there in black ink, sitting on the page in front of him.
It’s interesting seeing Daytrotter expanding and exploring the scene that Weiss is a part of, which hasn’t been particularly well-represented in their session archives so far. Stream the complete session HERE, and check out the tracklist below.
