Video: One Hundred Year Ocean - “1576” (Village Basement Session)
In the midst of their tour opening for the hyper-emotive indie rock group Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate), Derrick Shanholtzer’s newly solidified One Hundred Year Ocean project stopped by New Jersey for a Village Basement Session. They performed a minimalist, acoustic version of “1576,” the standout track from their new EP Poison Smoak, which was released earlier in the year.
The subdued nature of this performance recalls the earlier days of One Hundred Year Ocean, prior to the release of the new EP, when it was less of a band than a solo project of Shanholtzer’s. There are numerous videos online of him performing this song alone, but the sound quality of this performance and the inclusion of his fiance Katie Dvorak on vocals makes this video stand out.
The four track Poison Smoak EP is available to download on bandcamp now for a price of at least 69 cents. Very funny, Derrick.
