Sufjan Stevens Announces New EP with Son Lux & Serengeti

Well this is just about the most exciting news I’ve heard all year. Fresh off the tour behind his landmark 2010 record The Age Of Adz (my #3 AOTY of that year), Sufjan Stevens has just announced the formation of a new musical project with two Anticon artists, Son Lux and Serengeti. The project, appropriately named s / s / s, will release their debut 4-track EP Beak & Claw on March 20th.
Having seen two of these artists (the rapper Serengeti and Stevens himself) perform live before, and having followed Son Lux’s quest to craft an album in a month on NPR, I can say that the prospect of these three unique musical figures coming together is a very exciting one. Expect Stevens and Son Lux to play off each other’s strengths as a singer and composer, incorporating elements of their electronics-focused recent albums into the production on Beak & Claw. Serengeti will undoubtedly provide thought-provoking, cerebral rhymes with his distinctive spoken delivery, as he did to great effect on last year’s Family & Friends LP. According to the press release for Beak & Claw, the EP will also feature vocal contributions from My Brightest Diamond and Anticon figurehead Doseone, who has collaborated with Serengeti in the past. Check out the tracklist below.
