Pitchfork Music Festival Announces Initial Lineup + Dates

(via)

So Pitchfork recently posted the initial lineup and the dates for their 2012 Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago’s Union Park. The festival will take place July 13th-15th, and will feature the above artists in addition to over 30 currently unannounced acts.

My parents have offered to let me go to the Pitchfork Festival as a gift this year, should I choose to do so, and I was wondering what my followers think about this.

Here are my thoughts.

1). It looks like the headliners are Vampire Weekend, Feist, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Although I would love to see Godspeed live, this is kind of disappointing to me because I can’t stand Vampire Weekend and because I’m really just not into Feist that much either. I honestly wish I could have gone to the 2010 Pitchfork festival, because those headliners (Modest Mouse / LCD Soundsystem / Pavement) were amazing.

2). Solid hip-hop selection. It would be really awesome to see Kendrick Lamar at the festival, and A$AP Rocky and AraabMUZIK probably put on good shows too.

3). Interesting electronic/Experimental acts. Hot Chip and Grimes should be fun, and Tim Hecker probably has a really intellectually stimulating live show. I haven’t listened to The Field yet but I’ll check out the record they (he?) put out last year for sure if I plan on going. Also, I missed Liturgy the last time they came to Connecticut because I was seeing The Antlers, but I’d love to see them live just for the hell of it.

4). Cloud Nothings. This band has played in New Haven about a million times in the past three years, but that was before they put out Attack On Memory. Now that they’ve turned into a great band, I would love to see them live. I’m actually second most excited for them out of this initial lineup (after Godspeed, of course).

So anyway, those are my thoughts as of right now. Of course there are going to be a lot more acts announced in the coming weeks, but I have to make my decision about going to this festival by next Friday when the tickets go on sale. If you were in my place, would you go? Are any of you out there planning on going already? If I go, do you want to hang out or something?

  1. cafe-eitelkeit answered: Feist is rad and Vampire Weekend puts out some chill tunes occasionally don’t be a jaded punk Chrise Caplo
  2. jesyanne answered: Definitely go! I have gone every year for a while now, and even when it is not a very good time, it is still a pretty good time. Haha.
  3. samclarke333 answered: All the bands that you’ll be most into will be at Pitchfork. It’s a sweet festival, and the rest of the lineup will be great.
  4. vacantsummer answered: I’m going! I don’t know you but I’d love to hang!
  5. mtfarrell answered: If yr parents are going to let you go to Chicago for a fest, hold out for Lolla. Most of these bands are coming/just came thru the northeast
  6. dead-as-dreams answered: I would go just to see GY!BE, Don’t know why people keep complaining, most of the headlining artists are groups I really dig.
  7. wounded-kite answered: Do it, Feist is great.
  8. clarissime answered: GO!
  9. sea-fence said: let’s go to this, i fucking love the vampire weekends and i don’t give a FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK WHAT YOU THINK
  10. rainbowsrillusions answered: Shit’s all the way in Chicago. I don’t have money for that.
  11. animalnitrate answered: Ahh! I definitely agree with you that the initial lineup seems kinda weak. the lineup last year and the year before were so much better.
  12. knee-deep-at-atp answered: I wish I could go to Chicago and get a day pass to see Godspeed.
