A music blog, established 2010. My name is Chris Cappello and I live in New Haven. I write reviews, broadcast on the radio, collect vinyl, and generally listen to entirely too much new music. Following this blog for all of that and more.

Dirty Projectors - “Gun Has No Trigger”

Dirty Projectors are back, following up their 2009 record Bitte Orca with a brand new single. “Gun Has No Trigger” is a change of pace for the band, with sensual, dubby bass, skittering live drums, and surprisingly tuneful and simple vocal melodies from frontman David Longstreth. Longstreth’s angelic bandmate Amber Coffman provides her signature backing vocals, adding an eerily hypnotic sheen to the track. It’s the next step in their evolution from experimental noise-freaks to more melodic accessibility, and I’m certainly not complaining. At a digestible 3 minutes and 24 seconds, “Gun Has No Trigger” makes for a great start to what’s sure to be an excellent spring and summer of music.

Stream the song above, or check it out over at the Domino Records soundcloud page. “Gun Has No Trigger” will appear on an as of yet unnamed new LP, which is due for a release in the coming months. That seems to be the album art above.
