I’m going to assume that you’re talking about this.
I played a show a couple nights ago with my friends in Two Humans and a bunch of other bands. One of the bands (a hardcore band called Girls Just Want to Have Fun) decided it would be cool to “make a statement” about the whole Two Humans issue from about two months ago by throwing TWIABP records into the crowd and telling the audience to “smash them.” I guess this was because members of The World Is were very vocal about their opinions regarding the incident and were instrumental in staging the discussion about the negative effects of racial slurs that occurred at The Space in April.
Apparently this band Girls Just Want To Have Fun thought it was uncool that the members of TWIABP believe that it’s wrong for white kids to say the n-word. Apparently it was worth it for them to smash another band’s records to defend their “right” to say that word. TWIABP didn’t even play the show though, so this whole thing is ridiculous.
Basically, there are two morals of this story.
- White kids: Stop saying the n-word. Why do people still not realize this?
- Be respectful. I don’t care what your reasoning is for doing so; defacing a band’s records like that is not respectful and not cool. Be a decent human being and show some respect. Of all bands, TWIABP certainly deserves it.
Overall, this wasn’t really a big deal. Honestly, the band who did this just came off looking really stupid and immature. Two Humans made their peace with the scene well over a month ago, and there is no beef between them and The World Is right now. This other band was voicing their opinion very late in the game, and they looked very bad because of it.
