Torche - “Kicking”

Anthony Fantano finally got me to listen to the new Torche LP Harmonicraft yesterday, and I have to say I’m glad that he did. No, seriously, I have to say it. I’m contractually bound as his intern to like everything that he likes.

But really, this whole record is great. Torche has been billed as a metal band for a long time, but for the most part, this album is too catchy, slimmed down, and punk to qualify as metal for me. “Kicking” is one of my favorite tracks — an aptly named banger that will smack you in the face and beat you up while simultaneously making you want to shout along with it. Think of it as a heavier Fang Island, or a slightly more serious Andrew W.K. Headbanging hasn’t felt this good in years.
