Dirty Projectors - “Dance For You”

After their excellent single “Gun Has No Trigger” dropped in March, I’ve been getting excited for Swing Lo Magellan, the new Dirty Projectors album. “Gun Has No Trigger” hinted at a more accessible sound for the album, and their new single “Dance For You” furthers that trend while keeping their signature experimental edge as a foil. The new track has a really fascinating mix that sounds almost like a demo-quality recording at first, but then builds into a lush, orchestral piece with strings and woodwinds around the 2 minute mark. Even when he’s busy singing catchy melodies and crafting tracks that could almost pass for pop songs, guitarist/frontman David Longstreth really knows how to keep the listener on his or her toes.
