The Mountain Goats - “Cry For Judas”

Here’s a new Mountain Goats song from their forthcoming studio album Transcendental Youth. It’s a classic piece of later-career Mountain Goats, with a propulsive “Heretic Pride” reminiscent backbeat, folk rock guitar pounding, and biblically inspired lyrics. John Darnielle appears to be in attack mode here.

“Cry For Judas” also features a the full horn section that this album is being hyped for. I’ve never really heard horns utilized this way in a Mountain Goats song before, and I’m really happy with the way they turned out.
