Wavves Announced New EP

(via Pitchfork)
Given how lame their output has been lately, it’s easy for me to forget that surf/pop/punk/whatever-ers Wavves’ King of the Beach was my fourth favorite album of 2010. Since that record dropped, Nathan Williams has done a lot of drugs, made a little money and a lot of tweets, and recorded some new songs that are honestly quite terrible. While I doubt that he’ll kick his drug/tweeting habits any time soon, listeners may actually have some decent new Wavves music coming their way in Summer 2011.
On his twitter page, the Wavves frontman announced that a new EP is in the works. Featuring collaborations with (predictably) surf poppers Best Coast and (much less predictably) the ambitious hardcore punk act Fucked Up, the EP is currently untitled, but is slated for a Summer release. According to Williams, they’re “The best songs I’ve ever recorded. Easily.”
Is this worth getting excited over? We’ll see. If anything, this news has sparked my interest in Wavves again.
