Punch - “Time Apart”

I’m seeing the San Francisco-based hardcore group Punch tonight in Milford, so I’ve been gearing up with a run through their blistering discography. I’m excited for this show in part because it’s been a while since I caught a real hardcore show, but also because Punch is one of the rawest and most progressive punk groups around these days. Newer acts like Cerce and Code Orange Kids owe a debt to Punch for paving the way for such violently aggressive female fronted hardcore.
This track, from the band’s most recent release Nothing Lasts, is one of my favorite songs of theirs. It’s groove oriented and catchy but nonetheless unrelentingly visceral — the perfect balance of melodic sense and uncompromising force that this band has been honing since their 2008 debut.
