Left of the Dial Radio Playlist - 6/1/12

Last night’s broadcast of Left of the Dial on WNHU was my first radio show of Summer 2012! That’s something to celebrate, right? I first started interning at WNHU two years ago this month, and got my show soon after that. I like to think that I’ve come a long way since then. Anyway, here’s the full, 30 track playlist from last night’s show. Another Friday night means another live broadcast of my radio show Left of the Dial on WNHU. I’ve been thinking of doing some themed broadcasts in the future but for now I’ll keep the show as free-form as it’s always been — Some of my favorite songs that I’ve been listening to in the past week along with whatever new material happened to fall on my plate recently. Tonight’s show will feature new stuff from Mount Eerie, The Tallest Man On Earth, and Japandroids, whose new record Celebration Rock received a glowing review from me HERE. I’m kicking the show off right now with “Fire’s Highway,” a highlight track from that album.
This broadcast will run from 6 to 8 PM, and I’ll post regular updates throughout the next two hours. Leave any requests you might want to hear in my ask box. The playlist will be up tomorrow to stream on Spotify.

The lead single from Fang Island’s forthcoming album Major is more direct than anything they’ve done before, but just as fist-pumpingly joyful. Tune in to Left of the Dial on WNHU now.

32 years into their career, the Beastie Boys were still making great music. This cut from last year’s Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 will be the last Beastie Boys song I play on my show tonight. Tune in to Left of the Dial on WNHU now.
The Beastie Boys got their start originally in the early 1980s as a boyish hardcore punk band. Although that influence permeated all of their later work in some way, they never acknowledged their punk rock past as directly as they did on “Time For Livin,” a sub-2 minute rager from Check Your Head. Tune in to Left of the Dial on WNHU now to hear it.
Come on, you know you love this song. Tune in to Left of the Dial on WNHU now.
This track from 1992’s gritty Check Your Head features a pristine distillation of the delightful vocal interplay that the Beastie Boys were so good at. Tune in to Left of the Dial on WNHU now.
