Left of the Dial Radio Playlist - 3/23/12

Last night’s show went really well. Thanks to everybody who tuned in and enjoyed the programming. Next Friday I will probably not be able to do my show because I’ll be performing in New Haven, but if that ends up not happening for whatever reason, I’ll probably be back in the studio doing another broadcast of Left of the Dial. As always, here’s the playlist from the show last night with links to stream each song. A number of these tracks were culled from the records I listened to while I was in Paris this past week, which I wrote about yesterday HERE. I also devoted the final segment of the show to Mitch Dubey, who was murdered a year ago today here in New Haven, Connecticut.

Left of the Dial Radio Playlist - 3/16/12

By this time tomorrow, I’ll be staying in an apartment in Paris, France. On last night’s Left of the Dial radio program, I geared up for my trip by playing a little French music. I also played some new tracks, including a song from Port of Morrow, the new album from The Shins. I wrote a pretty thorough piece about The Shins yesterday as well, and I think that’s worth reading if you’re into them. Other new music on the playlist included the new b-side from Sharon Van Etten and a track from the new Saddest Landscape album After The Lights, which the legendary post-hardcore band is releasing officially tomorrow in Hamden, CT. Unfortunately I won’t be able to go, but you should if you’re in the area. Find more information about the record release show HERE

Below is the full playlist rom last night’s show, plus youtube links to each song. Thanks for tuning in!

Left of the Dial Radio Playlist - 3/9/12

Last night’s broadcast of Left of the Dial on WNHU was my first time doing my radio show in three weeks! It felt good to be back. On the show last night I played a lot of new stuff by artists such as The Men, Arcade Fire, and Bruce Springsteen. I also played some new music from Cheap Girls, whom I saw live the night before in New Haven. Check out some photos from that show HERE. Additionally, I played one of my favorite tracks from Love At The Bottom of the Sea, the new record from The Magnetic Fields. I reviewed that album HERE

Here’s the full playlist, complete with youtube links to each song whenever I could find them. Thanks for tuning in!

Left of the Dial Radio Playlist - 2/17/12

Last night’s broadcast of Left of the Dial was an interesting mix. I saved most of the new stuff (Grimes, Burial, etc.) for the second half of the show, and reserved the first for a selection of deep cuts from the Conor Oberst discography. If you missed the broadcast, those early Bright Eyes and Commander Venus songs are definitely worth giving a listen to.

Tune in next Friday for another live broadcast on WNHU.

Left of the Dial Radio Playlist - 2/3/12

Thanks to everyone who called and tuned in last night for this week’s live broadcast of Left of the Dial. It was a lot of fun doing this show last night, especially because the lead singer of Palomar happened to call in and compliment the music I was playing! Naturally, I felt obliged to play one of their songs towards the end of the set. Tune in next Friday for another broadcast on WNHU.

Left of the Dial Radio Playlist - 1/27/12

I have been absolutely exhausted this entire week, and I think that last night’s Left of the Dial radio playlist reflected that, at least towards the second half. Thanks to the people who called in and placed requests, and thanks to everybody who tuned in on that bizarre, foggy night in New Haven, Connecticut.

Also, this is somewhat unrelated, but last night while I was doing my show, I was thinking about how I’m kind of getting bored with the music that I’ve been listening to for a long time, or how it sometimes makes me upset to listen to because of the people and events that I associate it with. I’m sort of entertaining the idea of just taking everything that I’ve listened to already in my itunes library and putting it on an external hard drive and just getting it off my computer. This will give me the freedom to explore all of the new music that I have in my overstuffed downloads folder too. Does anyone have any thoughts about this?

Left of the Dial Radio Playlist - 1/20/12

Here’s the playlist from last night’s broadcast of Left of the Dial on WNHU. I tried to play some positive music to counteract my general unhappiness and I guess it worked, at least for the two hours during the show. Notable songs included Sharon Van Etten’s beautiful “Kevin’s,” from her new album Tramp, which I reviewed earlier today HERE. I also played a track from the new One Hundred Year Ocean EP Poison Smoak, and the new Bruce Springsteen single. I hope those of you who tuned in enjoyed what I had to play.

Tune in next Friday for another broadcast on WNHU.

Left of the Dial Radio Playlist - 1/6/12

I just realized that in the midst of all the horrible things that happened this weekend, I forgot to post the playlist from my radio show on Friday. I’m sorry about that. Thank you to everyone who tuned in. Prepare for this show to get a lot sadder to listen to in the coming weeks.

Anyway, here’s the playlist with an attached link to stream to each song.
